On April 20, the Moldovan capital Chișinău hosted the eighth and penultimate competition day of the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships. Medals were contested in three weight categories: men’s – up to 102 kg and up to 109 kg, and women’s – up to 87 kg.

Team Armenia added more medals to its tally: Garik Karapetyan won the European title in the 109 kg category. Simon Martirosyan (109 kg) and Liana Gyurjyan (87 kg) earned silver in the total. Additionally, Tatev Hakobyan (87 kg) won a small silver medal in the snatch. Thus, ahead of the final day, Armenia has 3 big and 4 small medals.

In the men’s 102 kg category, Belarusian lifter Yevgeny Tikhontsov dominated by taking gold in all lifts and the total. In the women’s 87 kg division, Olympic champion Solfrid Koanda of Norway secured the win.
