Armenian track and field athlete Yervand Mkrtchyan won the bronze medal at the 2025 Balkan Athletics Championships, held in Volos, Greece, from July 26 to 27.
In the 3000m race, Mkrtchyan clocked 8:13.12 and finished third. The race was won by Turkish athlete Abdurrahman Gediklioglu (8:11.38), while Bulgarian Ivo Balabanov (8:11.79) took second place.
Mkrtchyan also competed in the 1500m event, where he narrowly missed the podium, finishing 4th.
It is worth noting that the Armenian runner participated in the Paris Olympic Games and earlier this year won the Balkan Indoor Championships in the 1500m race.
At the Volos tournament, the Armenian national team was represented by five athletes: Gayane Chiloyan, Meri Sargsyan, Gor Harutyunyan, Levon Aghasyan and Yervand Mkrtchyan. Mkrtchyan was the only medalist for the team.
