Emma Poghosyan wins bronze at the 2026 Junior World Championships

Armenian weightlifter Emma Poghosyan won the bronze medal at the 2026 Junior World Championships, taking place in Egypt. In the women’s 86 kg weight category, she posted a total of 253 kg.
Poghosyan lifted 109 kg in the snatch and 144 kg in the clean and jerk. For the Armenian athlete, this marked an improvement compared with her winning performance at the 2026 European Championships among seniors: 2 kg more in the snatch and 3 kg more in the clean and jerk.
The competition in the women’s 86 kg category was exceptionally intense. After five successful attempts, Poghosyan kept her chance to fight for the championship title in her sixth attempt by requesting 149 kg in the clean and jerk, but she was unable to lift the weight.
The victory went to Turkmenistan’s Anamjan Rustamova, who totaled 257 kg. China’s Linyue Xu claimed silver with a result of 256 kg.

Following Emma Poghosyan’s bronze medal, Team Armenia now has three medals at the Junior World Championships in Egypt: 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Valerik Movsisyan will also compete for Armenia today in the 94 kg category.
