Armenia’s tennis player Elina Avanesyan stepped onto the court for the first time in two and a half months, but her comeback turned out to be challenging. In the WTA 125 tournament taking place in Tucumán, Argentina, the 23-year-old athlete was defeated in the first round.
World No. 119 Avanesyan faced Georgian tennis player Ekaterine Gorgodze (World No. 191) and lost 3:6, 3:6. The match lasted one hour and 22 minutes.
This was Elina’s first appearance since her forced break. Her previous official match took place on August 27 at the US Open, where she lost in the opening round to Russian player Anastasia Zakharova. Following that defeat, Avanesyan announced a temporary break from competition due to the effects of infectious mononucleosis and a series of injuries, which had caused prolonged fatigue and recovery issues.
The upcoming tournaments are expected to show how quickly Elina can regain her previous form and return to the fight for higher ranking positions. Fans continue to actively support her, hoping to see her again among the strongest players.
