Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan (WTA 48) secured a hard-fought victory over China’s Xinyu Wang (WTA 36) to advance to the Round of 32 at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Doha. The intense match lasted over three hours and ended in Avanesyan’s favor in three sets — 7:6 (7:3), 1:6, 7:6 (7:5).
The first set was evenly contested and went to a tiebreak, where Avanesyan showed composure and came out on top. In the second set, Wang took full control, allowing her opponent to win just one game. However, in the deciding third set, Avanesyan regained her focus, fought through several tough rallies, and once again pushed the match to a tiebreak, where she demonstrated resilience and closed out the victory.
In the Round of 32, Elina Avanesyan will face the winner of the Kasatkina vs. Kudermetova match.
