Elina Avanesyan and Alina Charaeva Reach Hamburg WTA 250 Round of 16

Armenian tennis players Elina Avanesyan and Alina Charaeva have successfully advanced through the opening round of the WTA 250 tournament in Hamburg.
Avanesyan, ranked world No. 208, recorded a convincing victory over 35-year-old Dutch player Arantxa Rus, who is ranked No. 187 in the WTA standings. Avanesyan won the match in straight sets, 6–2, 6–1.
She will face Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, the world No. 79, for a place in the quarterfinals.
Charaeva, ranked No. 117 in the world, came from behind to defeat Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo, ranked No. 212, in three sets, 3–6, 7–5, 6–1.
In the round of 16, Charaeva will play Austria’s Sinja Kraus, who is ranked No. 80 in the WTA standings.
