Armenian wrestler Yegishe Mosesyan (71 kg) became a bronze medalist at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in freestyle wrestling, which is taking place in Athens.
In the third-place match, Mosesyan showed great character and managed to snatch victory from Uzbekistan’s Farrukhbek Djumanazarov. Trailing 2:6, he turned the bout around and claimed a hard-fought 7:6 win. This medal became the only award for the Armenian freestyle wrestling team at the tournament.
On his way to bronze, Mosesyan confidently defeated Russia’s Zubair Bagilov (8:3) in the 1/8 finals and overcame Turkish wrestler Omer Gul (9:7) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Armenian had one of the most spectacular bouts of the tournament against American Jaydon James. The match ended in a 5:5 draw, but James was awarded the victory due to his advantage in holding at the end.
Earlier, the 16-year-old Mosesyan had become the U15 European champion and the U17 European bronze medalist.
