Armenian fighter Eduard Vartanyan (27-4) scored an early victory over Ahmed Aliev (22-9) in the main event of BetCity Fight Nights 127, held on August 16 in Minsk. The bout ended with a technical knockout in the second round.
Aliev, representing the Lezgin people, took the fight on short notice, replacing the injured Marif Piraev. Despite that, he put up a worthy challenge to Vartanyan. The first round was competitive and could have been awarded to Aliev — especially after a precise spinning head strike.
In the second round, Vartanyan increased the pace and seized the initiative. Midway through the five-minute round, he landed a powerful knee to the liver area, sending his opponent to the canvas. On the ground, Eduard continued striking until the referee stepped in, sealing the victory by technical knockout.
This win further cemented Vartanyan’s status as one of the top lightweights in Russian promotions, although it’s worth noting the fight took place in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg).
