Eduard Spertsyan issues statement after scandal: “I’m ready to take a polygraph test”

Krasnodar captain and Armenian national team leader Eduard Spertsyan has spoken directly to fans for the first time following accusations of a racist remark towards Akhmat defender Ousmane Ndong.

In his video, Spertsyan called the situation a “circus” and stressed that he did nothing of the kind:

“I am Eduard Spertsyan, and I want to comment on yesterday’s situation, which has gone too far. I find the unproven accusations against me unacceptable. I’m ready to prove my innocence in any way — lip reading, polygraph — no problem. I’m confident in myself and my words. I didn’t say that.”

He emphasized that he grew up in the Caucasus and was raised with respect for others:
“I grew up in the Caucasus, I know all the values, my parents raised me right — I would never allow myself to do such a thing. What’s happening now is ridiculous and looks like a circus.”

Spertsyan said he decided to speak personally because there were “too many rumors and speculations” around the incident:
“I decided to share this because too much is being said. But I stand by my words.”

Earlier, Ndong claimed that Spertsyan had insulted him on racial grounds during the Krasnodar–Akhmat match, but Spertsyan firmly denied the allegations.

The Russian Football Union’s disciplinary committee continues to review the case, with a decision expected in the coming days.
