The captain of the Armenian national team, Eduard Spertsyan, commented on the team's 0–1 loss to Hungary in the 5th round of the 2026 World Cup qualification, which took place on November 13 in Yerevan.
According to Spertsyan, despite the result, the team continues moving in the right direction:
“Unfortunately, this time we couldn’t achieve the desired result. I’m proud of the team, we are on the right path. Thank you to everyone who was with us today, supported us and shared our emotions!” the captain wrote after the match.
Eduard Spertsyan entered this match wearing the captain's armband. He had worn it before as vice-captain when the previous captain, Varazdat Haroyan, was absent. Now Spertsyan is the main captain, and this was his first match in the new role.
The Armenian national team has lost its chances of leaving the group and will play the final match against Portugal, which needs a victory. The match will take place on November 16 in Porto.
