Armenian wrestler Janes Nazaryan has won the gold medal at the U17 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship, which is taking place in Samokov, Bulgaria.
In the final of the 71 kg weight category, the Armenian national team representative defeated Georgian wrestler Ramaz Basilia 4-0 and became the U17 European champion.
For Nazaryan, this is another major success on the international stage. At U17 level, he has already won gold at the World Championship, as well as silver and gold medals at the European Championships.
Nazaryan’s path to the title in Bulgaria was especially impressive. Throughout the entire tournament, the Armenian wrestler did not concede a single point to his opponents. He defeated a representative of Romania 6-0, a wrestler from Moldova 8-0, an opponent from Russia 9-0, an Italian wrestler 10-0, and then beat the Georgian representative 4-0 in the final.
Janes Nazaryan’s total score at the tournament was 37-0.
Nazaryan’s gold became Armenia’s sixth medal at the U17 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship and the Armenian team’s second gold medal of the tournament.
Earlier, Vahe Oveyan became European champion in the 80 kg weight category. Zaven Mezhlumyan won silver in the 65 kg category, while Ararat Avetisyan, Gegham Yeghiazaryan and Vazgen Vardanyan claimed bronze medals.
Armenia still has one more final ahead: Aleksan Shaldzhyan will compete for gold in the 92 kg weight category.
