Two world records at the start of the 2025 Weightlifting World Championships — Day 1 results

On October 2, in the Norwegian city of Førde, the 2025 Weightlifting World Championships kicked off. On the opening day, women in the lightest weight category (up to 48 kg) took the stage, and the competition immediately delivered world records.
The star of the evening was North Korean lifter Ri Song-Gum, who secured double gold with a total of 213 kg (91 kg snatch + 122 kg clean & jerk). Both her clean & jerk result and the total became new world records.
Silver went to India’s star Mirabai Chanu Saikhom with 199 kg (84+115). Just one kilo behind, Thailand’s Tanyaton Sukcharoen took bronze with 198 kg (88+110).
Both Chinese athletes remained off the podium: Li Shumiao (191 kg) finished fourth, while Zhu Qiulian (185 kg) was fifth. Cuba’s Lidia Montero Ramos and Taiwan’s Fang Wan-Ling shared sixth place with identical results (183 kg).

The World Championships in Førde will run until October 11. On October 3, medals will be contested in men’s 60 kg and women’s 53 kg. Representing Armenia, Garnik Cholakyan (60 kg) will compete.
