London-based Tottenham have parted ways with two first-team players during the current transfer window, both of whom will continue their careers in other European leagues.
The first high-profile move was the transfer of Wales international winger Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace. The London club officially announced the signing of the 24-year-old, paying £33.5 million (around €37.5 million) for the player. The deal became the most expensive in Crystal Palace’s history. The parties signed a 4.5-year contract, and Johnson will wear the number 11 shirt. Last season, the winger was remembered for scoring the decisive goal in the Europa League final against Manchester United, which brought his team the trophy.
The second player to leave Spurs was Israeli attacking midfielder Manor Solomon. Italian side Fiorentina announced his move on loan with an option to buy. The 25-year-old was not part of Tottenham’s long-term plans and spent the first part of the season on loan at Villarreal, where he scored one goal in six matches. Fiorentina’s management, struggling in Serie A, hope Solomon will strengthen the team’s attacking line.
Solomon has extensive international experience: during his career, he has played for Shakhtar Donetsk, Fulham and Leeds, and featured in European competitions, making around 30 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League. He has also earned 48 caps and scored 8 goals for the Israel national team.
Thus, Tottenham continue their squad rebuild, while Johnson and Solomon receive new opportunities to prove themselves in teams that are placing serious trust in them.
