Today, April 8, marks the second day of the European Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Bratislava. Team Armenia continues its medal hunt, with two of our wrestlers taking the mat — 4-time European champion Arsen Harutyunyan (61 kg) and Narek Harutyunyan (74 kg).
First matches for the Armenian athletes:
Round of 16: Arsen Harutyunyan vs. Stiliyan Iliev (Bulgaria)
Round of 16: Narek Harutyunyan vs. Murad Kuramagomedov (Hungary)
Also today, three Armenian wrestlers will compete in the repechage round for a chance to fight for bronze:
Manvel Khndzrtsyan (57 kg) vs. Ivaylo Tisov (Bulgaria)
Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg) vs. Krzysztof Bienkowski or Miayka Naim (both from Bulgaria)
Gurgen Simonyan (97 kg) vs. Batyrbek Tsakulov (Slovakia)
Victories in these matches will give the Armenian athletes a shot at winning bronze medals at the continental championships.
Later in the evening, we’ll witness the final featuring Arman Andreasyan (70 kg), who will face Russia’s decorated wrestler David Baev.
