Davit Chaloyan Shares His Expectations Ahead of the IBA World Championships 2025

Armenian super heavyweight boxer Davit Chaloyan gave an extensive interview to the official IBA account on the eve of the 2025 Men’s World Boxing Championships, set to take place in Dubai from December 2 to 13. The 2021 world silver medalist spoke about his preparation, motivation, and the key lessons he has learned in recent years.

Chaloyan emphasized that winning silver at the 2021 AIBA World Championships in Belgrade became a turning point for him:

“After earning silver at the 2021 World Championships, I realized how crucial experience is when preparing for major tournaments. My preparation for the 2025 world event has become much more deliberate. I pay much more attention to strategy, opponent analysis, as well as physical and mental conditioning.”

Speaking about his mindset for the upcoming tournament, he noted that his goals have become more ambitious:

“I no longer want to just participate in big fights — I want to win them. Now I approach everything with a cool head, and my confidence is firm

.”

Toughest Opponent and Career-Changing Moment

Chaloyan also recalled the toughest fight of his amateur career — the 2021 final against Russia’s Mark Petrovsky:

“That final was a true test for me. The intensity of the fight was impressive: I was very close to defeating the world champion, but it wasn’t meant to be. That bout became a turning point after which I began demanding more from myself, working harder and thinking deeper.”

The IBA World Championships 2025 is expected to become one of the biggest in history not only in terms of participants but also financially. Organizers have announced a record prize pool of 8 million dollars.
