Armenian super heavyweight boxer Davit Chaloyan (+90 kg) ended his campaign at the 2026 European Boxing Championships in Sofia in the quarterfinals.
In the bout for a place in the semifinals, Chaloyan faced reigning IBA world champion David Surov of Russia. The Russian super heavyweight won by unanimous decision, 5–0.
As a result, Chaloyan fell short of securing a medal at the European Championships. The Armenian boxer contested two bouts in Sofia, defeating a Ukrainian opponent in his opening fight before advancing to the quarterfinals.
Earlier on September 22, Armenia secured its first two medals of the tournament. Elida Kocharyan (65 kg) and Rudolf Garboyan (50 kg) won their quarterfinal bouts and reached the semifinals, guaranteeing themselves at least bronze medals.
Two more Armenian boxers, Artur Bazeyan (60 kg) and Marat Mikaelyan (75 kg), will compete for semifinal places on September 23.
