Montenegro call up Marko Šimun ahead of Nations League match against Armenia

Montenegro head coach Mirko Vučinić has given Marko Šimun, a midfielder for Sutjeska, an additional call-up for the upcoming Nations League matches. Montenegro’s next game is against Armenia in Yerevan on 28 September.

The 25-year-old Šimun has made five appearances for the senior national team. He made his debut last October in an away match against the Faroe Islands. The federation did not explain the reason for the additional call-up, so it cannot yet be linked to a new injury in Montenegro’s squad.

Vučinić’s side came from behind to beat Cyprus 2–1 in their opening match. After the game, the coach stressed that the players need to recover before travelling to Armenia. He said he would consider their physical condition when selecting the team and that tired players could be rested. Vučinić noted that Montenegro have three more matches in less than ten days after the Cyprus game.

Montenegro have already lost several players to injury ahead of the match in Yerevan. Sead Hakšabanović will miss the entire current Nations League window, Adam Marušić was not included in the initial squad, and Marko Perović was previously called up to replace the injured Andrija Ražnatović.
