The 2026 World Wrestling Championships for men and women will take place not in Bahrain, but in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The dates of the tournament remain unchanged: the competition will be held from October 24 to November 1.
The decision to move the venue was made amid the tense geopolitical situation in the world and the military situation in the Middle East. As a result, the organizers changed the host city while keeping the original dates of the world championships.
Astana will host the World Wrestling Championships for the second time in history. The capital of Kazakhstan previously hosted the tournament in 2019. Back then, around 1,000 wrestlers took part in the competition, making it one of the most attended World Wrestling Championships in recent years.
The 2026 tournament will be held at Barys Arena, which has a capacity of 11,570 spectators. The venue is one of the largest sports arenas in Kazakhstan and has already hosted major international competitions.
It should be recalled that it was earlier announced that the 2027 World Wrestling Championships will be held in Las Vegas.
