2025 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships: Day 2 Results and First Champions

On September 19, in the Croatian capital, Zagreb, the second day of the 2025 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships took place. On the second day of the tournament, champions and medalists were determined in the weight categories of 55, 77, 82, and 130 kg, while the finalists were decided in the 60, 72, and 97 kg categories.

The first world champions of 2025 came from Georgia, Armenia, and Iran, with Iran claiming two titles.

For Team Armenia, Malkhas Amoyan (77 kg) became a two-time world champion by defeating Olympic champion Nao Kusaka (Japan) in the final.

Among today’s starters, none of the Armenian wrestlers reached the finals, while Artur Aleksanyan was stopped at the quarterfinal stage. The finalists include representatives from Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and France.

Artur Aleksanyan (Armenia) was eliminated in the quarterfinals and is out of medal contention.


These finals will take place on September 20. In addition, on September 20, wrestlers in the last three weight categories — 63, 67, and 87 kg — will begin their competition. Representing Armenia will be Karen Aslanyan (63 kg), Slavik Galstyan (67 kg), and Vigen Nazaryan (87 kg).
