2026 European Boxing Championships in Sofia: Day One Results

The men's and women's 2026 European Boxing Championships kicked off in Sofia on September 17. The opening day featured Round of 32 bouts in five weight categories: men's 55kg, 70kg, 85kg and 90kg, as well as women's 65kg.

Four Armenian boxers entered the ring on the first day, with three of them claiming victories.

Elida Kocharyan, Zhirayr Sargsyan and Narek Manasyan all made winning starts to the tournament. Harutyun Hakobkokhyan suffered Armenia's only defeat on the opening day.

In addition, Gor Ayvazyan represented Georgia in the men's 55kg category, while Arsen Chabyan competed for Austria at 70kg. Both were eliminated after defeats in the Round of 32.

The competition in the Bulgarian capital runs from September 17 to 25. More than 400 athletes representing around 40 national federations have entered the championships. Medals will be awarded in 20 weight categories — ten men's and ten women's divisions.
