European Sambo Championship 2025: First winners and medalists in Limassol

On April 23, the 2025 European Sambo Championship kicked off in Limassol, Cyprus. On the very first day, 11 sets of medals were awarded in combat and sport sambo events for both men and women.

The tournament will conclude on April 24, when champions in the remaining weight categories will be determined.

Medal table leaders: Russia on top, Armenia’s strong start
Russia won the most gold medals on Day 1 — six in total. Ukraine and Georgia each earned two golds, and Belarus secured one. Armenia claimed three bronze medals, all in men’s combat sambo.

In men’s combat sambo, Team Armenia claimed three bronze medals:

  • Avetik Poghosyan – up to 88 kg
