Borussia Mönchengladbach played their first match after the dismissal of Gerardo Seoane. In the Bundesliga Matchday 4 fixture, the team was led by interim head coach Eugen Polanski, who had previously worked with the youth squad.
Under his guidance, Borussia M drew 1–1 with Bayer. Leverkusen took the lead in the 70th minute through Malik Tillman’s goal, but in the 90+2nd minute Haris Tabakovic equalized with a header from a corner. For Mönchengladbach, this was only their second point of the season.
The team played with a new formation featuring three central defenders. Armenia international forward Grant-Leon Ranos started on the bench despite the injuries of Franck Honorat and Robin Hack. The 22-year-old striker came on in the 86th minute and helped his team secure an important away point.
