The Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) has issued an official statement regarding the ticket situation for the Armenia – Portugal match, which will take place on September 6 at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ticket hype
The interest in the game turned out to be unprecedented: with a stadium capacity of 14,000 seats, more than 470,000 applications for tickets were submitted. Since each fan could purchase no more than two tickets, the organizers managed to satisfy about 7,000 applications. As a result, hundreds of thousands of fans were left without tickets.
The special excitement is also due to the fact that fans expect to see Cristiano Ronaldo on the field, as well as to support the Armenian national team in its first World Cup qualifier under the guidance of new head coach Yeghishe Melikyan.
Many fans complained about the website’s performance during the start of ticket sales.
Fight against speculation
The FFA emphasized that tickets were sold at affordable prices — from 1,000 to 3,000 drams — in order to keep football a mass and social phenomenon. Despite this, offers appeared on the black market with prices many times higher — up to 100,000–200,000 drams.
The Federation reminded that each ticket contains a unique QR code that is activated only on the day of the match. In case of resale, there is a risk that the same ticket will be sold to several people, and only the first code will work. When purchasing from scalpers, all responsibility lies with the fan.
FFA’s appeal
The Federation strongly urges fans not to buy tickets for the Armenia – Portugal match from resellers, so as not to support speculation and to avoid problems when entering the stadium.
“By refusing to buy tickets from scalpers, we will jointly help to completely eradicate this negative phenomenon in Armenian football,” the FFA statement reads.
Armenia – Portugal match
The match will take place on September 6 at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan, with the kick-off at 20:00. A special atmosphere is expected: Armenian fans are planning a tribute in memory of Portuguese national team forward Diogo Jota, who recently passed away.
