Armenian national futsal team defender Artur Melkonyan may soon become a player of the reigning Russian champions, MFC Ukhta.
The current club of the 34-year-old footballer, Lipetsk-based LKS, has ceased the operation of its senior teams due to financial difficulties. Most of the club’s former players have already found new teams, and according to sources, Melkonyan is expected to follow suit. It is anticipated that after the European Championship, the defender will return to Ukhta — a club that holds legendary status for him.
Artur Melkonyan played for Ukhta from June 2020 and spent four seasons with the team. At the time of his arrival, the club was considered one of the outsiders of the Russian Super League, but it improved steadily each year. In the 2023/24 season, Melkonyan began the championship as team captain and achieved historic success together with the club: Ukhta won the first trophy in its history, the League Cup, and also became the silver medalist of the Super League.
After that season, the defender moved to LKS, but according to rumors, he is now set to wear the Ukhta jersey once again. The contract is expected to run until the end of the current season, with an option to extend.
At present, Artur Melkonyan is with the Armenian national futsal team, preparing for the 2026 European Championship.
