Armenian wrestlers Arsen Julfalakyan (77 kg) and Eduard Soghomonyan (130 kg) will participate in the Pan-American Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships, which will be held in Monterrey, Mexico, from May 8 to 11.
The 37-year-old Arsen Julfalakyan will represent Argentina in the 77 kg weight class. His main rival will be American wrestler Kamal Bey. Julfalakyan is a World Champion and an Olympic silver medalist with the Armenian national team. However, in recent years he has lost his place in the Armenian squad to Malkhas Amoyan and has since switched allegiance to Argentina. Arsen has already competed for Argentina, including at the Pan-American Olympic Qualification Tournament, where he lost to Kamal Bey.
Eduard Soghomonyan, who also has Armenian roots, has represented Brazil since 2012. After success at the youth level, he struggled to secure a place in Armenia’s senior team and accepted an offer from the Brazilian federation. With Brazil, Soghomonyan competed at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games and has won three medals at the Pan-American Championships.
