Four-time European champion Arsen Harutyunyan (61 kg) has reached the finals of the 2025 European Wrestling Championship, where he will face Russia’s Zaur Uguev tomorrow.

Semifinal Triumph Over Abakarov

In a tense semifinal, Harutyunyan defeated Chechen wrestler from Albania, Zelimkhan Abakarov, with a score of 5-2. Interestingly, in the 2023 European Championship final, the Armenian wrestler also defeated Abakarov with the same result.

In the other semifinal, Zaur Uguev dominated Belarus’s Dmitry Shamela with a 10-0 victory.

Their two previous encounters were won by the Russian wrestler:

  • 2019: Uguev won 10-0

  • 2023: Uguev won 6-4

Now, Harutyunyan gets a chance for revenge.

Road to the Final

Arsen Harutyunyan:

  • Round of 16: Defeated Iliev (Bulgaria) 11-0

  • Quarterfinal: Crushed Kolesnik (Moldova) 12-2

  • Semifinal: Beat Abakarov (Albania) 5-2

Zaur Uguev:

  • Quarterfinal: Defeated Dzhelep (Ukraine) 11-1

  • Semifinal: Early victory over Shamela (Belarus) 10-0

The final bout Harutyunyan vs. Uguev will take place on April 9 at 19:00 Moscow time.
