An incident occurred during the international U17 Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in Rakvere, Estonia, involving Armenian wrestler from Lithuania Tigran Manukyan and Turkish athlete Bülert Dogu Lagap.
During the match, Tigran Manukyan won convincingly with a score of 10–4. However, after the bout, both athletes were disqualified for allegedly unsportsmanlike behavior.
According to Manukyan, the incident did not end there. After the competition, in the corridor of the sports complex, the Turkish wrestler and his coach approached him, pretending to offer a handshake as a sign of peace, but then struck him.
“I was standing in the corridor talking to a friend. They came up, reached out their hands, and when I wanted to shake, he punched me,” Manukyan said.
Witnesses stated that Armenian national team coaches, who were also participating in the tournament, were present at the scene. After the incident, a serious altercation broke out between the Armenian and Turkish delegations.
The information was provided to Sportaran by Tigran Manukyan himself.
