Armenian Chess Players Win at the Kazakhstan Chess Cup 2025 in Almaty

Armenian chess achieved a major success at the international Kazakhstan Chess Cup 2025, held in Almaty. The winners of the tournament were Grandmaster Aram Hakobyan and Women’s International Master Mariam Mkrtchyan.

In the open tournament, Aram Hakobyan demonstrated confident and consistent play, scoring 7.5 points out of a possible 11. This result allowed him to claim sole first place, finishing ahead of his closest rivals in the standings.

Mariam Mkrtchyan also delivered a strong performance in the women’s tournament. She scored 7.5 points as well, sharing places 1–3, but secured overall first place and the championship title based on tie-break criteria.
