Armenian gymnasts Hamlet Manukyan and Mamikon Khachatryan will take part in the international tournament “Cup of the Strongest Athletes,” set to be held in Russia from July 3 to 6.
Both athletes recently impressed at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. 17-year-old Manukyan claimed gold on the pommel horse, while 18-year-old Khachatryan won silver on the same apparatus. Now, the Armenian talents will test themselves against gymnasts from countries that did not participate in the European Championships, including top Russian athletes.
The tournament will feature athletes from 12 countries: Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Armenia, South Ossetia, Syria, Tunisia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Gymnasts will compete for medals in the all-around and individual apparatus finals.
Manukyan and Khachatryan’s performance will serve as an important test ahead of future major international events.
