Armenian boxers win three gold medals at international tournament in Kaunas

Armenian boxers delivered a successful performance at the Algirdas Šocikas International Boxing Tournament held in Kaunas, Lithuania. Athletes from 13 countries took part in the competition, where Armenia’s representatives won three gold medals.
The tournament champions from Armenia were Ruslan Aslikyan in the 55 kg weight category, Artur Mkrtchyan in the 65 kg category, and Davit Simonyan in the 90 kg category.
Davit Simonyan’s performance was particularly impressive. The 2023 European Youth Champion not only won the gold medal but was also named the best boxer of the tournament. In the final, Simonyan defeated Scotland’s Robert McNulty.
Ruslan Aslikyan also faced a Scottish boxer in his final bout. The Armenian athlete had a clear advantage during the fight and sent his opponent to the canvas twice, confidently securing the victory.
Armenia’s third gold medal was won by Artur Mkrtchyan. In the 65 kg final, he defeated Magdi Abu Abdo, representing Switzerland, by unanimous decision.
As a result, Armenian boxers finished the international tournament in Kaunas with three gold medals, while Davit Simonyan also received the individual award as the best boxer of the competition.
