Armenian Boxers Start with Six Wins at the Batumi Tournament

On June 25, the international boxing tournament under the auspices of World Boxing kicked off in Batumi. Dedicated to the memory of Irakli Abashidze, the competition has brought together athletes from 10 countries: Georgia, Armenia, Poland, Ukraine, Israel, Cyprus, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
On the first day of the tournament, Armenian boxers claimed six victories in nine bouts. The most impressive win came from Zhirayr Sargsyan in the 60 kg category, who knocked out Kazakhstan’s Alihan Kenzhebay in the first round.

Win – 50 kg: Baregam Harutyunyan (Armenia) def. Lasha Keserelidze (Georgia), 5-0
Loss – Luka Kublashvili (Georgia) def. Rudolf Garboyan (Armenia), 4-1
Win – 55 kg: Davit Egoryan (Armenia) def. Daniyar Rozmetov (Turkmenistan), 5-0
Win – 60 kg: Zhirayr Sargsyan (Armenia) def. Alihan Kenzhebay (Kazakhstan), TKO in round 1
Win – 65 kg: Artur Shahpazyan (Armenia) def. Mamuka Jibuti (Georgia), 4-0
Win – 70 kg: Ararat Harutyunyan (Armenia) def. Faruk Dargig Gurkan (Turkey), 5-0
Loss – Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov (Turkmenistan) def. Zaven Galstyan (Armenia), 4-0
Loss – Givi Todua (Georgia) def. Vahtang Harutyunyan (Armenia), 4-1
Win – 85 kg: Rafael Hovhannisyan (Armenia) def. Emre Yunus Taskin (Turkey), 5-0
