Armenian boxers opened the first stage of the 2026 World Cup in Brazil with victories

On April 21, the first stage of the 2026 Boxing World Cup began in the Brazilian city of Iguazu. On the opening day of competition, three representatives of Armenia entered the ring, and all three claimed victories.
Despite serious logistical difficulties on the eve of the tournament, the Armenian national team successfully began its campaign in its debut World Cup held under the auspices of World Boxing.
First results of the Armenian boxers:
Round of 32, 60 kg: Artur Bazeyan confidently defeated Argentina’s Santiago Celes — 5:0.
Round of 32, 70 kg: Ararat Harutyunyan edged Tunisia’s Zakaria Romdhani — 3:2.
Round of 16, 90 kg: Narek Manasyan defeated Venezuela’s Wilmar Rojas — 4:1.
Thus, the Armenian boxers made a successful start to the tournament, posting a 100 percent result on the opening day of competition.
The first stage of the 2026 Boxing World Cup in Brazil will run until April 27.
