Armenia has sent a large team to the World Sambo Championships for juniors and youth

From October 2 to 4, Thessaloniki, Greece, will host the 2026 World Sambo Championships for athletes in various age categories ranging from 14 to 20 years old.
A total of 55 sets of medals will be contested at the tournament, with athletes from more than 40 countries competing for the podium places. Armenia will also take part in one of the season’s major international events, sending a large squad to Greece.

The Armenian athletes travelled to Thessaloniki together with coaches Smbat Hovhannisyan, Ivan Azizbekyan, Artak Parsiyants, Gagik Ghazaryan, Hayk Avetisyan and Vovik Khojayan. The Armenian delegation at the World Championships is headed by Armenian Sambo Federation president Mikael Hayrapetyan.
The competition in Thessaloniki will last three days and conclude on October 4.
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian Sambo Federation had encountered financial difficulties related to participation in the tournament, but the issue was eventually resolved.
