Armen Nikoghosyan announces resignation as FFA vice-president

Vice-president of the Football Federation of Armenia and member of the FFA Executive Committee Armen Nikoghosyan has announced his resignation.

Nikoghosyan released an official statement confirming that he is stepping down as vice-president of the federation and as a member of the Executive Committee. At the same time, he noted that he will continue to take part in the preparatory work for organizing the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which Armenia will host jointly with Georgia.

Armen Nikoghosyan was effectively considered one of the key figures in the current FFA leadership. In terms of influence within the federation, he was not simply a vice-president, but one of the central figures alongside FFA president Armen Melikbekyan.

In his statement, Nikoghosyan recalled that at the end of last year he had announced his intention not to run in the Executive Committee elections in 2026 and to end his work as FFA vice-president. However, subsequent events brought certain changes to his decision.

One of the major achievements he mentioned was the participation of the Armenia national futsal team in the group stage of the European Championship. Nikoghosyan described it as an unprecedented result for Armenian sport and emphasized the special emotions he experienced during those days, when Armenia finally found itself on the same level as Europe’s leading nations.

Nikoghosyan called Armenia and Georgia being awarded the right to host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup an even more significant event. According to him, not long ago such developments seemed unattainable, but now they have become reality, and Armenian football must aim for new goals.

“I announce my resignation as vice-president of the FFA and as a member of the Executive Committee,” Nikoghosyan’s statement reads.

He also thanked his colleagues for their joint work, noting both successes and failures, and apologized to everyone. Nikoghosyan stressed that in many cases he did not agree with the decisions that were made, but always acted in the interests of Armenian football.

Separately, he stated that one of the priorities of the current FFA leadership had been to eradicate nepotism and corruption. According to Nikoghosyan, the federation has managed to completely eliminate these phenomena, and this process has already become an irreversible reality.

At the end of his statement, Nikoghosyan expressed confidence that the Armenia national team will make progress in the near future, as all the necessary conditions have been created for that.

“I wish our country strong and unshakable peace, as well as new victories for Armenian sport and football,” Armen Nikoghosyan said.
