On February 6, 2025, the draw for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2027 qualifying round took place in Nyon, Switzerland. The Armenian U21 national team was placed in Group E, where they will compete against Italy, Poland, Sweden, North Macedonia, and Montenegro.
Armenia U21 head coach Armen Gyulbudaghyants commented on the results of the draw:
"We will be playing against very strong teams. I can say with confidence that there are no weak teams in our group. Nevertheless, we will try to achieve the maximum, both in terms of results and player development. We are now waiting for the official match schedule in the group, after which we will have a clearer understanding of our preparation process. We will move forward game by game," said Armen Gyulbudaghyants to the press service of the Football Federation of Armenia.
Armen Gyulbudaghyants was appointed head coach of the Armenian U21 national team in December 2023. Previously, he led the national team in 2018-2019.
The group stage of the qualifiers will take place from March 2025 to October 2026. The nine group winners and the best second-placed team will qualify directly for the final tournament, joining the host nations Albania and Serbia. The remaining eight second-placed teams will compete in the play-offs in November 2026 for the final four spots in the championship.
The Armenian U21 team has never reached the final stage of the European Championship. The upcoming matches will be a serious test for the team and its coaching staff.
