14-year-old Armenian wrestler Aren Piruzyan, who recently won a bronze medal at the U17 European Freestyle Wrestling Championships, will soon take to the mat again — this time in the younger U15 category, with the competition kicking off on June 25 in Italy.
At the tournament in Skopje, Piruzyan had only two bouts. In the quarterfinals, he lost 1:8 to Russia’s Umar Rabadonov, who went on to win the championship, allowing the Armenian to enter the repechage. In the bronze medal match, Piruzyan defeated Azerbaijan’s Omar Usubov by technical superiority and earned his first international medal.
Despite his young age, Aren is already proving himself at a high level in two age groups. His participation in the U15 European Championship will be another step forward in the fast-developing career of the young athlete.
Notably, Armenia’s freestyle wrestling team won four medals at the U17 European Championships.
