Ararat-Armenia claimed a crucial comeback victory in the penultimate round of the Armenian Premier League. Manuel Tulipa’s team defeated BKMA 3-2, despite trailing by two goals in the second half.
BKMA had a strong spell and were leading 2-0 by the 58th minute. Narek Hovhannisyan opened the scoring, before Mark Avetisyan doubled the army club’s advantage. It seemed that the league leaders could drop key points in the title race, but Ararat-Armenia managed to turn the match around.
The comeback began with a goal from Araik Eloyan. Joao Queiros then equalized, and the decisive goal was scored by Hugo Oliveira, who sealed a 3-2 victory for Ararat-Armenia.
This result is hugely important in the title race. In the final round, Ararat-Armenia will face Gandzasar. At the moment, only Ararat-Armenia and Noah still have realistic chances of winning the championship.
The situation for Manuel Tulipa’s side remains very simple: a win in the final round will guarantee Ararat-Armenia the title. However, if the leaders draw or lose, and Noah win their three remaining matches against Pyunik, Ararat and Urartu, then Noah will become champions.
Therefore, after the dramatic victory over BKMA, the fate of the title remains in Ararat-Armenia’s hands. To become champions, the team needs to take one final step — beat Gandzasar.
