"Ararat-Armenia" secured an important victory over "Pyunik" with a 2:1 score in the central match of the 21st round of the Armenian Premier League.
The match took place in Yerevan at the "Junior Sport" stadium and turned out to be intense. The game was interrupted for an hour due to a protest by fans demanding the resignation of the President of the Armenian Football Federation.
The situation was resolved only after the police detained the most active protesters.
After the match resumed, in the 15th minute, Eric Okansi opened the scoring after receiving a pass from Tenton Yenne. "Ararat-Armenia" played aggressively and did not allow "Pyunik" to dictate the game.
In the second half, "Pyunik" started attacking more actively and equalized in the 56th minute with a penalty converted by Yusuf Otubanjo. However, the visitors quickly regained the lead: in the 64th minute, Okansi turned into the assist provider, setting up Yenne for the winning goal.
The final minutes of the match were tense, and "Pyunik" was left with ten players after Brian Alsevus received a red card in the 90+7th minute. "Ararat-Armenia" confidently saw the game out and secured three crucial points.
This result brought the team closer to the league leaders. In the standings, "Ararat-Armenia" now occupies fourth place with 38 points, just two points behind "Pyunik," which is in third place.
