Armenian weightlifter Anna Amroyan won the gold medal at the 2026 World junior Championships in the women’s 77 kg weight category.
The 19-year-old athlete did not start the competition with her best result in the snatch, where she placed only fifth with 106 kg. However, in the clean and jerk, Amroyan delivered the strongest performance of the day, lifting 134 kg, which allowed her to finish first in the total.
Overall, the Armenian athlete recorded 240 kg and edged Finland’s Anna Ilisoini by just one kilogram.
It is especially noteworthy that Amroyan successfully completed all six attempts — three in the snatch and three in the clean and jerk.
For Anna Amroyan, this is her first gold medal at a world championship. She had previously become European youth champion, and at the senior European Championships she won a small gold medal.
For the Armenian national team, this victory became its first gold medal at the tournament in Ismailia, Egypt, and its second major medal of the competition.
