Alina Charaeva reaches the last 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing

Armenian tennis player Alina Charaeva continues her impressive run at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.
In the round of 32, Charaeva, ranked No. 118 in the WTA standings, defeated Britain’s Sonay Kartal (WTA No. 129). The match ended in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Charaeva has therefore advanced to the round of 16, where she will face China’s Qinwen Zheng (WTA No. 54).
The two players have met once before. In 2020, Zheng won their previous encounter in three sets, 2-1.
In the previous round in Beijing, Charaeva recorded one of the biggest wins of her career by defeating world No. 1 Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
