Swedish club Norrköping forward Albert Aleksanjan has played his first match for the Latvia U21 national team. His debut came in the Baltic Cup match against Estonia.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw, while Aleksanjan started the match and played the full 90 minutes. It was an important step for the player at international level, as he had previously been in the sights of several national teams.
Aleksanyan has Latvian and Armenian roots, as well as Norwegian citizenship. Because of this, his potential future at national-team level attracted interest not only in Latvia, but also in Armenia and Norway. For now, however, the forward has made his first choice in favor of Latvia’s youth national team.
The tall striker continues to play in the system of Swedish side Norrköping and has now received an opportunity to show himself on the international stage. Latvia U21 still have one more match ahead in the friendly Baltic Cup — against Lithuania.
