Ararat-Armenia are considering signing Armenia international midfielder Vahan Bichakhchyan, who currently plays for Legia Warsaw.
The information was reported by insider Oskar Mochnik, who specialises in news about the Polish club. According to him, Legia will not stand in the 27-year-old’s way if they receive a suitable offer.
The interest in Bichakhchyan is also linked to new regulations in the Armenian championship. Clubs are not allowed to register more than 15 foreign players for the season, and Ararat-Armenia have already reached the permitted limit. Therefore, as the team looks to strengthen its squad ahead of decisive European fixtures, players holding Armenian citizenship are the most suitable options.
The Armenian champions are currently competing in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. In the first leg, Ararat-Armenia defeated Slovenian side Celje and moved closer to reaching the tournament’s play-off round.
The Armenian club have already secured a place in at least the main stage of the Conference League. However, they still have a chance to qualify for a more prestigious European competition—the Champions League or the Europa League.
It was previously reported that Legia had placed Bichakhchyan on the transfer list. Despite this, the midfielder began the new season with the Warsaw club and has already registered an assist.
