Winners and Medalists Crowned at Armenia’s Youth Weightlifting Championships

Armenia’s Youth Weightlifting Championships were held from July 23 to 25 at the Simon Martirosyan Weightlifting School of the Sports Management Center. Nearly 100 athletes representing different cities and sports organizations competed for medals during the three-day tournament.

The competition determined the champions and medalists in every weight category for both female and male athletes.

Winners in the Girls’ Competition

Ofelya Hovhannisyan of Gyumri won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg category, recording a total of 109 kg in the snatch and clean and jerk.

Milena Hovhannisyan of Ararat became the national champion in the 53 kg category with a total of 117 kg. In the 57 kg division, Gyumri’s Araksya Sirakanyan claimed first place after lifting a combined 137 kg.

Angelina Hovhannisyan of Ararat won the 61 kg category with a total of 132 kg. Meri Misakyan of Kasakh secured the championship title in the 69 kg division with a result of 200 kg.

Alina Sukiasyan of Sevan took gold in the 77 kg category after recording a total of 223 kg. The highest total in the girls’ competition was achieved by Emma Poghosyan of Gyumri, who lifted 240 kg to win the 86 kg category.

Nare Arakelyan of Ararat was crowned champion in the over-86 kg category with a total of 200 kg.

  1. Davit Arakelyan (Gyumri) — 266 kg

  3. Seyran Adibekyan (EOHPMK) — 255 kg

70 kg category

  1. Samvel Martirosyan (Vagharshapat) — 285 kg
  2. Tigran Ayvazyan (Vanadzor) — 251 kg
  3. Nver Mkrtchyan (Vedi) — 245 kg

75 kg category

  1. Narek Grigoryan (CSKA) — 320 kg
  2. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan (CSKA) — 288 kg
  3. Ashot Martirosyan (Vagharshapat) — 256 kg

85 kg category

  1. Narek Mkrtchyan (Vanadzor) — 326 kg
  2. Ashot Gasparyan (CSKA) — 322 kg
  3. Hayk Harutyunyan (Baghramyan) — 297 kg

95 kg category

  1. Valerik Movsisyan (CSKA) — 340 kg
  2. Hovhannes Ghahramanyan (CSKA) — 296 kg
  3. Narek Tsaturyan (Vedi) — 280 kg

110 kg category

  1. Alex Mesropyan (Gyumri) — 287 kg
  2. Edgar Mahlamyan (Gyumri) — 286 kg
  3. Henrik Harutyunyan (Gyumri) — 270 kg

Over-110 kg category

  1. Gagik Mkrtchyan (Vedi) — 330 kg
  2. Garegin Mkhitaryan (Gyumri) — 311 kg
  3. Andranik Margaryan (Vagharshapat) — 292 kg

The highest total in the boys’ competition was recorded by Valerik Movsisyan. Competing in the 95 kg category, the CSKA athlete lifted a combined 340 kg to claim the Armenian championship title.

The tournament was an important national event for Armenia’s young weightlifters and gave the coaching staff an opportunity to assess the athletes who could form the next generation of the national team.
