Stepan Oganesyan Could Continue His Career in Armenia

Former Orenburg midfielder Stepan Oganesyan could join one of Armenia’s football clubs, but he would first need to obtain Armenian citizenship.

According to journalist Sergey Ilyov, the 24-year-old has attracted interest from Pyunik, Alashkert and Noah. The Armenian clubs are prepared to consider signing Oganesyan on the condition that he is not classified as a foreign player in the domestic championship. This is related to the league’s restrictions on foreign players.

Oganesyan has also received an offer from Belarusian side Torpedo-BelAZ. The player was previously spotted on trial with the Zhodino-based club.

In the winter of 2026, Oganesyan was removed from Orenburg’s squad registration and subsequently spent a long period without competitive football. He became a free agent after his contract with the club expired.

The midfielder had previously attracted interest from Arsenal Tula and Rotor Volgograd. His move to Rotor was reportedly close to completion, but the parties ultimately failed to reach an agreement.

Oganesyan has also previously been linked with the Armenian national team. The player decided against obtaining an Armenian passport at the time because he was hoping to receive a call-up from Russia. Armenian citizenship could now significantly simplify a potential move to one of the country’s clubs.
