Russian Wrestlers Win U17 World Freestyle Wrestling Team Title

The Russian freestyle wrestling team finished first in the overall team standings at the 2026 U17 World Championships, which are being held in Baku. Russia scored 146 points, edging Iran by just one point.

The Russian freestyle wrestlers won seven medals: three gold, one silver and three bronze.

Magomed Ibragimov became world champion in the 65 kg category, Abdurazak Shabanov won gold at 92 kg, and Magomed Omarov took the title at 110 kg.

Sergey Karmryan won the silver medal in the 60 kg category. Islam Kurakhmaev earned bronze at 51 kg, Mokhmad Bisultanov finished third at 71 kg, and Kantemir Elmesov claimed bronze at 80 kg.

Four other Russian athletes finished outside the top three. Aldar Badmaev placed 13th in the 45 kg category, Kirill Kondrashov finished eighth at 48 kg, and Mustafa Bersanukaev recorded the 17th-best result at 55 kg.

Armenia was represented by six wrestlers regarded as the national team’s second-choice athletes. The Armenian competitors finished the tournament without a medal and placed 20th in the overall team standings.
