First Finalists Determined at the 2026 U17 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Baku

The 2026 U17 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships began in Baku on July 31. Following the first day of competition, the finalists were determined in five weight categories: 48 kg, 55 kg, 65 kg, 80 kg and 110 kg.

Two wrestlers each from Russia, Uzbekistan and Iran advanced to the decisive bouts. Athletes representing India, Kazakhstan, Colombia and Hungary will also compete for gold medals.

Three wrestlers represented Armenia on the opening day of the tournament. Davit Baleyan will compete in the bronze-medal bout in the 55 kg category, while Erik Papikyan still has a chance to reach the 65 kg bronze-medal match through the repechage rounds.

The U17 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships are being held in the capital of Azerbaijan. The champions in the first five weight categories will be determined on August 1.
