Two Armenian wrestlers reach the U17 World Championships semifinals in Baku

Two members of the Armenian national team, Ararat Avetisyan and Vazgen Mnatsakanyan, have reached the semifinals of the U17 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships in Baku.

On the first day of competition, Armenian wrestlers are competing in the 48 kg, 55 kg, 65 kg, 80 kg and 110 kg weight categories.

Ararat Avetisyan

Round of 16: Ararat Avetisyan — Hector Aguilar (Mexico) — 14–7
Quarterfinal: Ararat Avetisyan — Javokhir Sharifboev (Uzbekistan) — 9–3
Semifinal: Ali Almas (Kazakhstan) — Ararat Avetisyan (Armenia)

Ararat Avetisyan secured two victories and will continue his bid to reach the World Championships final.

55 kg weight category

Gegham Yeghiazaryan

Round of 16: Gegham Yeghiazaryan — Ilia Vanzhul (Ukraine) — 9–0
Round of 16: Gegham Yeghiazaryan — Timofey Semyanenko (Belarus) — 0–9

Yeghiazaryan will be able to compete in the repechage if Timofey Semyanenko reaches the final.

65 kg weight category

Vazgen Mnatsakanyan

Round of 16: Vazgen Mnatsakanyan — Ramil Berdikulov (Kyrgyzstan) — 5–2

Mnatsakanyan won three consecutive bouts to reach the semifinals of the 65 kg weight category.

80 kg weight category

With the score tied in the opening bout, the victory was awarded to Vahe Hoveyan on tiebreak criteria.

The Armenian wrestler will earn the right to compete in the repechage if Benediktas Bubelevičius reaches the final.

110 kg weight category

Khachik Khachatryan

Quarterfinal: Khachik Khachatryan — Bruno Pallone (USA) — 0–8

Khachatryan will continue his bid for a bronze medal through the repechage if Bruno Pallone reaches the final.

When the U17 World Championships semifinals in Baku will begin

The first-day semifinals of the U17 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships will begin at 5:00 p.m. Moscow time.

The U17 Wrestling World Championships began in Baku on July 27 and will run until August 2.
