Armenian wrestlers started the U17 World Championships in Baku with three victories.

Armenian athletes claimed three victories in their opening bouts at the U17 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships in Baku.
In the 65 kg weight category, Vazgen Mnatsakanyan defeated the representative of Iran 7–4. The Armenian wrestler decided the outcome of the tense bout in the final seconds, scoring four decisive points.
Gegham Yeghiazaryan also made a successful start to the tournament. He secured an early 9–0 victory over Ukrainian wrestler Illia Vanzhul and advanced to the round of 16.
Reigning U17 European champion Vahe Hoveyan, competing in the 80 kg weight category, opened his campaign with a victory over Georgia’s Luka Buiglishvili. The bout ended 1–1, but the Armenian athlete was awarded the win on the first-point-scored criterion. Hoveyan also advanced to the round of 16.
Ararat Avetisyan, competing at 48 kg, and Khachik Khachatryan, competing at 110 kg, will also represent Armenia today.
The U17 World Championships are being held in the Azerbaijani capital from July 27 to August 2. The Greco-Roman wrestling competition began on July 27.
