Armenian kickboxer Zhora Akopyan (33–6) delivered a spectacular performance at the K-1 World Max 2025 tournament in Tokyo on November 15. In the quarterfinal bout, he scored an impressive victory by knocking out French fighter Aymeric Lazizi (23–2–1) in the very first round. Akopyan’s powerful combination ended the fight early and secured him a spot in the semifinals of the prestigious Grand Prix in the 70 kg weight category.
However, Zhora was unfortunately unable to continue competing later that evening. An injury sustained during the fight forced him to withdraw from the semifinal match. Akopyan’s team representatives stated that he will undergo a medical examination in the coming days, after which it will become clear how serious the injury is.
Despite the disappointing setback, Akopyan’s explosive knockout and confident performance were among the highlights of the Tokyo stage of the tournament.
