A historic milestone for Armenian golf took place at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters tournament. Jean Bekirian became the first representative of Armenia to make the cut at the prestigious DP World Tour.
The 22-year-old athlete started the tournament impressively, scoring 68 (-4) at Doha Golf Club. On Friday, he recorded a round of 74, allowing him to make the weekend with a total score of -2.
Bekirian, who changed his sporting nationality from French to Armenian last year, is playing in his third start of the 2025 Race to Dubai season, having earned his DP World Tour card through qualification.
"I am very happy to write my name in history," Bekirian shared. "Today was a tough day. I played well, just like yesterday, but my short game was not at its best. I needed to play one stroke better on the back nine to make the cut, and I managed to do it. I hope this leads to more successful results in the future."
The 2025 DP World Tour features players from 41 countries, and now, thanks to Bekirian’s performance, Armenia is among them.
"Every first time is never easy. But I am very happy. I am proud of my country, Armenia."
"In the past, I often struggled to make the cut—sometimes missing it by just one or two strokes," the golfer admitted. "That’s why I’m so happy with this result, and I will try to perform at my best in the rest of the tournament."
Bekirian’s success is an important step for Armenian golf. His achievement will inspire a new generation of athletes, and now Armenia can take pride in having a representative on the world stage.
